1.
Let's have a warm winter The high sun is out It's dripping from your mouth. If we get it started Well I'll really turn it out Banish any doubt. It's either Olde English or a bottle and cork Here in young New York And if you're young and black Cops they track you down the block To a door that never locks While all the dead gentry Line for brunch and moan Whining at their phones. And we all take pride in Knowing all the news So there's nothing we can do huh? Here on the big island Far removed from filth All laid out and built up. Out on the reservation Where the natives are confined by the bullying old rhyme There'll be a pyre burning Smouldering the ground Built from every crown. I've seen you kept up thinking You're sinking down into the cut Boy you're just sipping from the cup Sipping from the cup Sipping from the cup... The Chalice The Chalice Chalice...
2.
When I go out path fit to the shops I mix my numbers up watching out for the cops While you're waiting in line for word on the government houses They're propping up the wall, hoping their stock never drops. Swamped by the wind See the divide Called back to when? To the back of the leap in the firing line But before I think To summon the usual devices Suffer the love of a leaf through the mind Cold in New Orleans tonight... Don't call it by it's name Or drag us through the same old shame that you live in It's really bad but you make it worse When you reckless roll your life into a curse A strange thing when shame sings That same sting hot on your skin Pulling at your purse strings. Oh one the mistake of you Is a habit formed when you're willing to Lucked out with your buckshot teeth Either mind the gap or just let her sleep Hence forth you're a wily cat While the dogs pay pigs just to watch their back Since day you're a gully boy And the duppy man know to show no ploy Up to the bumper Swoon daggerin' and wind away True that you wine her Out on the floor you skank and sway And the front door is heaving The ropes are in shreds: Your penance gate If you're known in the doorway If you're known on the door you won't have to wait But when you're living in the heart where it's hot When you're living in the heart where it's hot...
